DAVIS BLASTS DeBLASIO FOR MEMBER ITEM HYPOCRISY
Public Advocate took $200,000 in campaign contributions from member item recipients
Kristin Davis, candidate for the Libertarian Nomination for Mayor today blasted Mayoral Candidate and Public Advocate, Bill DeBlasio for "sheer hypocrisy" for DeBlasio's call on City Council President Christine Quinn to eliminate discretionary spending by City Council Members in so called "Member Items" in the wake of the Malcolm Smith-Dan Halloran scandal.
"DeBlasio may be calling for an end to member items now, but in his last year on the City Council, in 2009, he gave out nearly $885,000 in member items to local groups" said Davis who ran for Governor in 2010 on a Libertarian platform. Davis said "De Blasio had delivered funding for 131 groups through Member Items over three years". She said employees or board members of those groups had in turn contributed $200,000 in campaign funds. "This is the worst kind of quid pro-quo" said Davis, a former Vice President of a multi-billion dollar hedge fund. "De Blasio delivered hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars to these groups and took campaign contributions in return.Evidently Mr. De Blasio believes the voters have no memory" said Davis.
The Libertarian Party holds its nominating convention for Mayor, Public Advocate and City Comptroller on Tuesday April 9th. The party has successfully petitioned its candidates on the ballot for Governor in the last four elections.
